Camp Laney offers a diverse program for its campers. While many of the activities stay the same throughout the course of a campers’ years at Laney, we offer different types of programs based upon the boys’ ages.
FOR BOYS FINISHING 1st, 2nd or 3rd GRADE:
These boys have the option of coming for a 1-Week Junior Camp Session OR a 2-Week Full Session.
The Junior Camp Session is very similar to the 2-Week Session; however, it is only 7 days and 6 nights. The Junior Camp Sessions are held within the first week of some of our 2-Week Sessions. The boys attending Junior Camp also do not attend dances and have special night activities only for them including at Tribe Competition and Campfire.
FOR BOYS FINISHING 4th, 5th or 6th GRADE:
These boys ONLY have the option to attend the 2-Week Full Session.
FOR BOYS FINISHING 7th, 8th or 9th GRADE:
These boys ONLY have the option to attend the 2-Week Full Session. These boys are automatically enrolled in our C.I.T. Program (Counselor In Training).
The Counselor In Training Program is designed for our oldest campers to take on more responsibility in order to begin to understand the role of our counselors. The boys have the option to skip (“CIT Out”) of one activity period every day and help out (“CIT In”) at another activity. They begin to take on leadership roles by facilitating the activity period and helping with our younger campers. CIT’s also have a few special night activities, such as multiple campfires at their own special campfire site and a Cabin Night where they take a twenty-minute hike to a secluded location where they cook hotdogs and s’mores.
BOYS FINISHING 9th GRADE also have the option to apply for the W.C.I.T. (Working Counselor In Training) Program – described below – however, they are given second priority behind boys finishing 10th grade.
FOR BOYS FINISHING 10th GRADE:
These boys can apply to be a part of our W.C.I.T. Program. WCIT’s come to camp for a 2-Week Full Session. While there is no cost for attending camp, there is also no compensation.
The WCIT Program is a continuation of the CIT Program and allows the boys to take on even more responsibility. The boys help serve meals and clean in the kitchen every day. They also serve our campers at both the Milk & Juice and Store breaks. In addition, they rotate between helping at the ropes course / adventure sports activities and helping with our younger campers. Helping with our younger campers is the most vital and significant experience of the program as they spend half a day following one group and helping facilitate the different activity periods. This gives them the opportunity to begin learning the core role of our staff, which is taking care of the campers, while under supervision from our counselors. More on the WCIT Program on the online application can be found HERE.
FOR BOYS FINISHING 11th or 12th GRADE:
These young men can now apply to be a part of the Laney Staff. They are considered Junior Counselors. They have all the same expectations and responsibilities; however they only work for half of the summer (either 1st & 2nd Session OR 3rd & 4th Session). Junior Counselors are required to attend the full week of Staff Training as well. More on being a Camp Laney counselor and the online application can be found HERE.
