The single most important aspect of any camp is its staff. Laney seeks young men of outstanding character who are mature, have a natural liking and ability to get along with boys, and have the ability to teach a skill. Counselors live with a cabin of boys and work at one of camp’s nine activity areas. The majority of our counselors have completed one year of college. These young men serve as role models for our campers, which is why we spend much of the year visiting college campuses, checking references, and conducting personal interviews with each prospective staff member.
Most parents send their son to camp because they know the positive influence a good camp can have on his life. Camp Laney accepts this trust with tremendous responsibility. And the staff must uphold this with every child, in every situation, every day. The job of a camp counselor is a serious task and a job for responsible people only. Camp counselors should consider their job as a chance to serve youth as well as an opportunity for personal development. Being responsible for the lives and character molding of young boys is not something to be taken lightly. By devoting oneself to serving others and buying into what Camp Laney is about, you will gain one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
We truly feel that camp is a growing and educational experience. If you think you might be further interested in summer employment at Camp Laney for Boys, please complete the attached Staff Application and return it to the addresses listed below.
